It Looks Like The 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning Will Beat The Tesla Cybertruck To Market

CEO Elon Musk stated that the all-electric Tesla Cybertruck would be available by 2021. However, the Cybertruck will utilize Tesla’s new 4680 battery cells, which are currently supply-constrained. Therefore, it’s very likely that the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning will beat it to market.

According to Electrek, Musk informed employees that the automaker will not begin Cybertruck production before the end of 2022. Tesla does not expect production to ramp-up to full capacity until 2023. Musk blamed the Cybertruck’s new technology for this latest delay. Given the above constraints and Tesla only recently finishing the Cybertruck’s final design, this news is not surprising. The truck’s unique features, such as its steel exoskeleton, will require new equipment and manufacturing processes.

Cybertruck is at a significant disadvantage to its competitors, with most of them due to launch in the second half of 2022. The Ford Rouge Electric Vehicle Center is expected to begin production of the 2022 Ford F-150 next spring. According to Ford Authority, Ford recently doubled its production of the F-150 Lightning 2022 all-electric pickup due to strong demand.
