In recent months, Ford has had its fair share of difficulties building 2021 Ford F-150 pickups. This is mainly due to a shortage of semiconductor chips and a fire at a Japanese chip plant. Ford has stored 2021 Ford F-150 pickups in the Detroit area, including the Dearborn Development Center track test track. This was until Ford received a large shipment of chips that allowed some trucks to be shipped to dealers. According to the Detroit Free Press, a train carrying several new vehicles, including F-150 pickups, derailed in Missouri.
Reports indicate the incident involved approximately 33 boxcars. It occurred about 100 miles west of St. Louis. However, the cause of the derailment remains unknown. Authorities deemed the vehicles a “total loss.” This is the latest problem in Ford’s never-ending production setbacks this year. Despite Jim Farley, Ford CEO, acknowledging that the chip supply has been steadily improving over recent weeks. Other Ford executives anticipate that the problem will continue through June 2022.
